About Us

Group 70’s creation of the Sustainable Marketplace of the Pacific is to share the vision of sustainable stewardship. The name of the center, Hi‘ialoākuapapa, embodies the vision and sets the cultural cornerstone in its meaning, to exude a nurturing essence, as a mother to child, fostering a tranquil and balanced union between man and environment.

The design center’s goal is to showcase an integrated approach to sustainable practices, products, technologies and services available in Hawaii, as organized by the five main LEED categories. The center also celebrates the synergy between culture and the arts with science and technology through the dedication of space for Maoli and local Hawaii artisans.

The Hi‘ialoākuapapa center is located in Honolulu, Hawaii at 925 Bethel Street Suite 100 on the corner of King Street and Bethel Street downtown.

Hours of operation are Monday-Friday 10am-3pm or by appointment. Also visit SustainableMarketplacePacific.com to find out about other upcoming events at the Hi‘ialoākuapapa center.

LEED WITH AQUAPave - PERMEABLE ON-SITE STORMWATER SOURCE CONTROL SYSTEM.
This permeable pavement system can reduce stormwater runoff quantities and improve water quality. Suitable for parking lots, residential driveways, commercial entrances, sidewalks, plazas and low speed residential roads. The EPA has recognized permeable pavements as a BMP suitable for improving stormwater management. As an effective BMP, the AQUAPave Permeable On-Site Stormwater Source Control System can be part of a municipality's stormwater management plan and help achieve compliance with NPDES regulations. The system acts as an infiltration facility for the storage, treatment, and improvement of released water. The system lowers construction costs, reduces runoff, recharges the groundwater table, acts as roof water management, manages oil contaminates and filters and treats pollutants. With an open surface area of about 2%, the openings can infiltrate as much as 354 in./hr. It meets the recommendations of ADAAG and is eligible for up to 9 or more LEED points. Futura Stone of Hawaii is an approved ICPI & PICP certified AQUAPave installer.

http://www.maoliartsmonth.org/awardees.html

"As a contemporary sculptor I am excited that internationally, museums, galleries and critics are recognizing contemporary Hawaiian art. This contemporary cultural diversity adds to a rich international culture. Modern art has gone full circle."

Bob Freitas' artistic roots evolved while living in Germany in the late 1960s, with his experiences at Documenta and other European art shows. He was also drawn to the Sculptural Abstract Expressionist Style of New York. While attending the University of Hawai'i in the 1970-80s, Freitas studied art, architecture, anthropology, engineering, political science and law. Since that time, he has been featured in scores of exhibitions, both locally and abroad, and has actively organized and curated many shows.

His artistic style is abstract, involving 3-D compositions that contrast carefully selected materials and incorporate structural elements, which are based on anthropometric relationships to achieve a unique visual and spatial balance.
